Celebrating innovation and enterprise; bringing the power of materials engineering to life
We saw a strategic opportunity to co-develop an activation at Pause Fest, Melbourne’s premier tech and creativity event, to showcase the enterprising spirit of Monash Materials Science and Engineering Department, and to showcase materials engineering as a cutting edge discipline.
To maximise attendance and reach, Local Peoples crafted an activation, PR and outreach campaign to communicate complicated research and technology to a wider audience.
Our Process
Stage 1 – Discovery
We held a client workshop with the project team to determine the strategy and audience the activation would target. We identified that Pause Fest would appeal to industry professionals and identify opportunities for cross-industry collaboration.Stage 2 – Define
Local Peoples worked with the client team to determine ways of creating an interactive exhibition based around the innovative technologies coming out of the Monash Materials department. The challenge was to create something that would attract passers-by as well as communicate complex information. We determined an interactive DJ booth with graphene covered elements would create a fun and ‘ear-catching’ entry into Pause Fest.Stage 3 – Design
The 3 day event at Pause Fest consisted of an exhibition of five startup enterprises that have been made possible with the help of Monash MSE, and also housed an interactive audio experience that explores future uses of the new material graphene.Stage 4 – Deliver
The activation was part of a wider media release and promotion strategy for a 3D printing partnership with XBlades. A Matters Journal article about the partnership featured in Issue 3, which was launched and distributed at Pause Fest.
