Local Peoples will soon expand into Canberra.
Read on for more about that exciting development, which includes adding a new General Manager in Australia’s capital. We know our design expertise and innovative approach can bring real value to public sector organisations.
And this year Local Peoples aim to create policies, services and products that meet the needs of a wider and more diverse community of Australians.
Suffice to say, we are laser-focused on delivering our key goals, which include supporting and growing more public sector clients and federal government services.
Refining Our Policy Co-Design Process
To achieve our goals, we plan to further calibrate our policy co-design process. We want to ensure that all stakeholders are heard and their needs are addressed.
We believe that by working with a wide range of stakeholders, we can create more effective policies and services that are tailored to the needs of different communities.
Local Peoples is also excited to be opening a home for designers in Canberra soon, with a focus on making a positive impact on the public sector and policy co-design.
Design and innovation can be powerful tools for addressing social and environmental challenges. By creating policies and services that are more inclusive, accessible, and sustainable, we can help to create a more fair society.
To help us achieve these goals, I am thrilled to introduce Maka Kama, our new General Manager at Local Peoples.
Alignment of Focus
Maka is located in Canberra, right amongst the positive change makers. He brings a wealth of experience and expertise in public sector innovation and inclusive design.
His skills and knowledge will be a crucial part of our efforts to expand our services and make a positive impact on the public sector.
Maka has a strong interest in closing the digital divide. Access to digital technologies and the internet has become essential for many aspects of daily life, such as education, employment, healthcare, and social interaction.
Those who lack access are at a disadvantage in regards to communication, and opportunities for social and economic advancement.
Maka believes that inclusive design can play a powerful role in creating more equitable access to technology. Whilst technology design often services the majority of the population, those that fall within the minority are often not catered to.
As a result, Maka has dedicated his life to inspiring leaders and designers to create solutions for minorities in society.
He started his career in the Public Sector with the Australian Attorney General’s Department and the Australian Department of Health and Ageing.
This was followed by a series of long-term engagements with technology multinationals serving government customers such as Accenture, Unisys, SAS, ThoughtWorks & DXC.
Moreover, Maka has dedicated his career to finding ways to inspire leaders to deliver innovative technology solutions that meet the needs of diverse communities at scale, and this has culminated in his PhD thesis studies and his community focus on regional technology delivery to indigenous communities in Australia and throughout the Pacific.
His focus is on inclusive design that delivers significant impact for the benefit of underprivileged citizens in real need of representation during the co-design process.
And he will be prioritising the needs of diverse communities and working collaboratively with stakeholders in government to unlock the value of continuous engagement with minorities in the community and help close the Digital Divide gap.
Committed to the Public Sector and People
With Maka on board and an office soon to open in Canberra, Local Peoples is committed to continuing our work in support of the public sector in 2023 and beyond.
We believe that design and innovation can help to create a more just and equitable society. This is who we are. It runs through all our people. And people are at the core of what we do.
I am proud of the work our team of strategic designers has accomplished in public sector innovation recently. They show in everything they do a strong commitment to making a positive impact on the public sector.
To summarise, as we come to the end of the first quarter of this year, we have set ambitious goals for 2023 that will continue to drive our mission forward.
And we are excited to have Maka join us in the work we do with our clients and partners to achieve this vision.
What’s more, with a new office soon to open in the nation’s capital, the Local Peoples’ story continues to evolve in an exciting direction.
