Will you be taking a moment to pause?
2021 will mark 11 years of Pause Fest. 11 years of engaging conversation, powerful insights and lasting connections.
As a member of the Pause Fest organising committee, Local Peoples founder Giuseppe Demaio holds the event close to his heart. He sits down with us to give the inside scoop on why Pause Fest 2021 is gearing up to be the best one yet.
For those that don’t know, what is Pause Fest?
G.D: Pause Fest is a festival of creativity, business and design; the biggest festival of its kind in the southern hemisphere. We bring together international speakers from all over the world. I believe there were over 2000 people last year.
This year the event will go for 12 days and is a unique experience to get together with some of the industries leading thinkers.
Why is a festival that brings business and creativity together important, especially now?
G.D: It is such an important time to be rethinking, reevaluating and redesigning the world. After all, the world as we knew it has changed. Now organizations, governments and not-for-profits are needing to rethink how they go about their business.
Bringing business and creativity to an intersection can generate innovation. This nexus is such an important catalyst for change. So the timing of Pause Fest this year couldn’t be more critical.
What are some things that have you excited from the 2021 program?
G.D: There is an amazing selection of talent to pick from! I’m really excited to see Dirk Ahlborn, the founder of Hyperloop TT. I’m interested to see how they are transforming the future of travel and transport. They have some really incredible ways of bringing people together to catalyse large scale projects.
I am also looking forward to hearing from Eric Peck, CEO and Co-Founder of Swoop Aero. By transforming the way the world moves life-changing supplies, Swoop Aero is enabling on-demand healthcare with aeromedical logistics. They are changing the lives of those in some of the most remote parts of the world and I cannot wait to hear more of their story!
Finally, I can’t wait to see Jennifer Riel, the Global Director (Strategy) of Ideo. As a founder of a human centred design studio, I am eager to hear what they have to share in regards to innovations around the practice and its renewed importance in reshaping the organizational experience.
And that’s just my top three, the program has so much more to offer!
What does it mean for you to be a part of the Pause Fest committee?
G.D: The Pause Fest committee is a really fantastic group of people from different walks of life; startups, consultancy, publishing. We’ve been doing this for the last 4-5 years. Being on the committee is a great opportunity to share ideas and discuss what we believe will make an exciting program.
Consider for a moment that Pause has been running for 11 years, what an incredible milestone. It’s a real joy and privilege to be a part of it.
For those that are still on the fence about attending - what would you say to them?
G.D: I don’t think that there’s been a better year to attend Pause Fest. There are amazing speakers – as there are each and every year – from Amazon, AirBnb, Google… I mean Guy Kawasaki is back too!
But it’s also the smaller organizations innovating at pace that leave me walking away with a sense of awe. They are always great examples of what can be achieved with creativity and curiosity.
In truth, Pause Fest is a great investment in yourself and will always open doors – doors to new ideas, new people and undoubtedly, new friends.
How could you miss out on that?
